Free Coffee!

Now, I know it's lame, but I'm one of those people that get really excited about free stuff. It totally satisfies my need for, well, stuff, without breaking my budget. For instance, you can get a free small coffee (and other neat discounts) when you print this coupon here and bring it with you to Borders! It's good until May 31st, so print a couple and enjoy going to the bookstore this weekend. I, personally, like to stop there after work on my way home...

Also, next week, Saturday, June 6th, Friendly's is doing their 2nd annual free scoop day! They're inviting customers, young and old, to stop by and enjoy a free 1-scoop cup or cone between noon and 5pm. It's a fun thing to do and their ice cream is amazing--what more could you ask for?

Race you to Borders!

Stop and Shop Deals - 5/29-6/4

Amazing week, everyone! Also a dollar doubler coupon week, aka $4 off $15 min. purchase! These are the first deals I saw, expect a follow-up post later tonight:
Strawberries (1lb) or Blueberries (1pt), 2/$4
Kellogg's cereal, 4/$6 (must buy 4) - (4) $1/1 from Kellogg's if you printed them when they were up = 4/$2 or $0.50/box
Hood singles, Kemps Yogurt parfaits, or Ittibitz, 10/$10 - BOGO 5/17 SS insert = 2/$1 or $0.50
Wise Potato Chips, 10/$10 - $0.50/1 coupon here (doubles) = FREE

Also, if you buy 3 large boxes of Kellogg's cereals, you get a coupon with your receipt for a FREE gallon of milk...the tricky part is that the boxes you have to buy to get the free gallon of milk must be at least 12oz, while the 4/$6 sale is on boxes less than 10oz. I'm not sure if this will be comparable, but you can still use 3 $1/1 coupons if you have them and the dollar double coupons will help, but I suspect it will run you over $2 for the three boxes...

Ragu!

Sign up and print this coupon here to get $1/2 jars of Ragu pasta sauce! Ragu has been going on sale a lot lately anyway, but if you were lucky enough like I was to get a rain check from CVS for the deal where you buy $10 of Ragu or Skippy and get $3ECB, you're in for some cheap pasta sauce. Using 3 $1/2 coupons and $3ECB to roll, it comes out to $4 for 6 jars or $0.67 each!

CVS - Nutrogena Suncare Deal

So there is word in all of the big forums that the Nutrogena 1oz 55SPF sunscreen, which is only $1.99, is producing $10ECB as part of the deal for this week, where if you buy 2 Nutrogena suncare products you get $10ECB back. Now if you're lucky enough to find these, definitely go for it, but they are very hard to find. I went to three different CVS stores yesterday and two didn't even carry them and one was sold out...

I did, however, notice that some of the Nutrogena suncare products are selling for $7.99 each. If you the $3/1 coupon here, I'm sure there will be a good sale in the future that might result in free/cheap sunblock...

Best,
Ali

Kraft Money-Maker!

As I updated you all last week, Kraft has put out a bunch of high value coupons recently. Now Shop Rite has the Kraft BBQ sauce on sale for $0.89, which when paired with $1/1 IP (internet printable) makes for free barbeque sauce. What makes this deal even better though is that when you buy 4 bottles, you get a coupon for $2 off your next order from Kraft! Basically you get paid $2 to take it away. Only caveat is that you can only get this reward once per card.

Also, at Adams/IGA, Kraft BBQ sauce is $0.56/bottle for the first two and $0.99/bottle after that, so you can get another $2 from Kraft there! Other great coupons are for the Nabisco 100 Calorie packs ($1/1), which when paired with $1/1 Target coupon, you get for $0.04! Additionally, at Target use the $2/2 or $1/1 Crystal Light to get the small packs of Crystal Light to Go (find in the check-out lane displays), which are $1/4ct.

Happy Shopping!
Alison

Mo' Moe's Please!

Normally, I'm not a big birthday person. I feel like it puts pressure on everyone around me and, honestly, it tempts me to have lend a hand in celebrating me, which might give others the idea that I lack humility ;-)

I, therefore, allowed many lovely groups of people to jointly provide a pre-birthday day for me on Friday. Since about 8am, I was working from home, but around 11, stood up, stretched, and asked my mom to accompany me on my first trip to Moe's Southwest Grill. A short ride later and I was entering Moe's, printed birthday certificate in hand. Now Moe's has a unique combination of aspects: number 1, it's service method is kind of like Subway or Quodoba(sp?) where one of the workers move your food down a line adding what you want; number 2, it's seating arrangement is a mix of boothes and tables, which all look comfortable enough for a family-style restaurant; number 3, awesomeness! As soon as I walked in three super-friendly workers shouted "Welcome to Moe's!" Then, after I decided on the "Overachiever" taco, I approached the food line to warn the server about the birthday certificate I wanted to use. He was so nice about it; after wishing me a happy birthday, he asked what I would like. Tentatively, I placed my order. His incredulous response: "Just one taco? How about two? Or a combination meal?" At this point I was almost in shock. It's how I remember feeling as a little kid when I found out I could have ice cream put in soda or that ice cream could have oreos in it! "Can I do that?" I managed to get out. In probably what is the best show of customer appreciation that I've ever seen in the face of having to give away something for free, the taco artist (my word, lol) replied "It's your birthday!"

I still got the overachiever taco (with grilled tofu - Moe's scores major veggie points for this and for their use of different spoons for each topping=no meat contamination, thank you!), a side of guacamole, chips, and a drink! It was all so delicious, including the salsa from the salsa bar. Also amazing, they managed to keep the guacamole fresh. I shared with my mom, who also loved it, and there was more than enough food for both of us. Before Moe's wasn't even on my radar, now it's at the top of my list!

Later that day Katharine and I went to see the new Star Trek movie (I used a movie pass my dad had re-gifted to me from one of his students). Afterwards, we went to Coldstone Creamery for a small bowl of cheesecake ice cream with strawberries mixed in (yum!) and PretzelTime for a small order of pretzel bites. Oh, indeed. Hurray for frugal birthdays!

Back to the Blog!

We're BACK! Unfortunately neither Katharine nor myself have really gone anywhere, we were just MIA from the blogosphere for the past three weeks...Definitely a lot has happened: my sister's birthday, employment drama, Katharine's graduation, my impending birthday this Saturday and, of course, Mother's day. None of which are an excuse for abandoning our goal of chronicling our fabulous frugal adventures, which as of late have been quite exciting!

To catch everyone up: My sister's birthday went off without a hitch (as I'm sure she would agree, if she ever commented on our blog instead of lurking, lol). She received a wonderful gift basket of her favorite foods, a computer case, also acquired at minimal cost, and some cash to sweeten the deal! We all had a great time celebrating her 25th birthday and I've been so lucky to have had her as my sister for all of my life.

Gumming up the works though has been my employment drama, although Katharine's has more than made up for it by being spectacular. I'm still working at an IT consulting/research company, but am looking for better options. I know I should feel lucky to have any job right now, but honestly, my job description has changed 100% since I started in September, I have put so much effort into learning new skills (my manager is an amazing and understanding teacher), and there has been no result of all our hard work. I still have the same job title, same pay wage, and same hours (basically I'm at their mercy for whether I work 24-40hrs a week). I am trying to find a job that will make me happier in terms of what my actual work is and the stability it offers, so maybe I'll include my job hunt in future posts. Otherwise though, Katharine has totally blown me away by her ability to graduate with honors, get an amazing job, and still be a wonderful friend and person! It was also fun to present her with a graduation present of neat coupon presents, including Got2b heat-protecting hair lotion, Dove skin vitalizer pads, and other little treats...

I'm definitely looking forward to this weekend, as not only Friday is my friend's birthday, Saturday is my birthday, and Sunday is Mother's Day, but Katharine will be home and I'm planning some fantastic frugal fun for the weekend! Seeing my friend at his birthday party will be great, hopefully will make some cupcakes to sweeten that deal for him. Earlier that day though, I'll be around the town with my mom, redeeming some special birthday offers that I've gotten from signing up for emails. Our stops will be Moe's Southwest Grill for a free entree and Coldstone Creamery for free ice cream! For these great birthday rewards all I had to do was sign up for their email newsletters (I also signed up for the Pretzel Time email and got a coupon for a free small cup of pretzel bites on my birthday)! I definitely want to take a minute to plug for Moe's Southwest Grill and FYI, I'm not getting anything to endorse them...They offer an amazing reward on your birthday if you join their email club, but they are also reasonably priced, healthy sounding, and vegetarian friendly! That's my trifecta of awesomeness for restaurants, so I will definitely report back to you if they live up to my expectations.

Plans for Mother's Day have been hard to come by this year, as my mom has insisted she doesn't want anything besides spending time together...Well, she'll of course be getting that, but she'll also be getting a gift basket with razor cartridges, Skintimate shave gel, Crest Whitening mouthwash, Starbuck's truffles, 3 Burt's Bee's chapsticks and 1 lip balm, hair elastics, and an adorable card from Hallmark (go to hallmark.com, create an account, pick a card & personalize, then checkout and use the code APRILCARD or CARD4MOM).

Well that's all for this post, which was kind of more of a social call than a frugal post. Hopefully, you can expect a frugal post to get you your deal fix later this afternoon!

Farewell, Frugalistas!
Alison

**Note: I don't know if anyone else is obsessed with John&Kate Plus 8 (I know I am!), but they're going through a really difficult time right now, so they're in my thoughts. When I first started couponing I found out that Kate is a coupon mom and I hope everything goes well for our frugal friends!
