Here's an example - According to peapod, 8oz of pre-shredded Sargento Mild Cheddar is $3, or $6 a pound.  Stop & Shop brand cheeses can come down to about $4.49 a pound.

When you buy the blocks of Stop and Shop brand cheese, you can get a 10oz bar for $2.50, which is about $3.97 a pound.
